Our Philosophy

        Maverick Baseball teams provide its players an environment conducive to improving each player’s mechanics while affording ample opportunity for high repetition resulting in positive muscle memory. Our focus is the development of each player, on an individual basis, within the team environment. Opportunity to maximize a player’s ability to improve their game is at the CORE of Maverick baseball. To accomplish individual player goals, concentration is placed on well planned practices that particularly address swing mechanics, fielding technique and throwing fundamentals. Practices are broken into drill segments that isolate a particular mechanic and are coached by a staff member that is particularly efficient in the isolated mechanic. 

Throughout the season, practices are held on a weekly basis and Maverick coaches hold steadfast to the belief that practice is of utmost importance while games are the opportunity to evaluate progress. While Maverick baseball places the emphasis on player development, it does not abandon the necessity of placing its players in a competitive environment. While winning is not everything, it is the goal. Competition provides the motivation to expand a player’s ability and it is the measure of success that determines who plays at the higher levels. 

The Maverick baseball philosophy addresses not only the need to balance competition with development but also provides an opportunity that challenges the varied skill sets of individual players. The baseball education is specific, particularized and competent. Mangers focus on the overall baseball acumen teaching players about baseball situations and a mental approach to the game. In effect players are receiving small group lessons within the program. The experience begins and ends with an individual evaluation of each player. Players were evaluated during the tryout process and during winter workouts. Maverick coaches note a player’s hitting, throwing and fielding mechanics and translate what they see into a player biography. The goal throughout the player’s tenure with the Mavericks remains to develop your player’s potential within the team environment.
